
With over 30 years experience in managing and delivering healthcare estate and facilities services, Tim Litherland holds the title of National Chair of The Health Estates Facilities Management Association (HefmA) - the UK’s leading member association that represents estates and facilities professionals operating within the NHS.
Tim was instrumental in forming HefmA in the early 1990’s. Since then it has grown to become a powerful force formed of 8 regional branches across England with a strong membership made up of over 350 Directors and Senior Managers. Members are responsible for the management of the day-to-day operation, maintenance and support services of all hospitals within any given NHS Trust.
Not only pivotal in driving HefmA, Tim is currently Head of Estates and Facilities for the North of England working across the three northern SHAs with his professional team providing advice and support at all levels to the NHS. He is also Chair of the North FM Training Advisory Group being a passionate supporter of personal development and learning. He is a member of the IHM’s efm Special Interest Group and holds a place on the IHM’s Talent Management Committee. He remains a Chair of Governors at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form, a member of the Board of Burnley School’s Trust.
Having trained as a Chartered Engineer, Tim has held in a variety of senior estates and facilities roles, mainly in the NHS but also some time in the Middle East and a couple of years with the DTi for good measure.
Having managed all the many services to be found in today’s NHS he is a passionate supporter of innovation and change as well as a devotee of embracing new ways of working in the NHS. On a personal level he takes his role as a leader in the profession very seriously and, among many other areas, continues driving for a sustainable, qualified and valued workforce within efm across the whole of England.
