Edwards warns of tough times

The acting head of the NHS Confederation, Nigel Edwards, has pulled no punches in warning of the tough times that are to come for those employed in the health service.

Speaking ahead of the organisation’s annual conference, which is being held in Liverpool, he said:

The NHS is facing the greatest ever challenge to the way it works and the way it cares for patients.

Now is the time for everyone working in our health service to rise to the challenge of providing improvements in care while also working more efficiently.

His comments came as the coalition government announced that the health service must make cuts of £20bn over the next four years.
