DEEP CLEANING ... OFTEN AT NIGHT

The iDCS specialised hospital and healthcare service from contractors City & Kent Cleaning has been used to deep clean maternity clinics, wards and other clinical services throughout the Mid-Essex Primary Care Trust. The aim, according to Jean Glasspool, business development director at City & Kent, was to “take the hassle out of an extremely pressured group of medical areas”, resulting in some odd hours, and on one occasion working in two maternity clinics, while the units were still up and running! The intensive operations were carried out at three wards, two outpatients departments, one endoscopy, and two phlebotomy departments, as well as the maternity clinics. In addition, two Rapid Assessment Areas and two therapy departments were also deep cleaned. The majority of the work was carried out overnight or at weekends.

BEATING THE INTRUDERS

UK-based installer Assured Fire & Security (AFS) is making maximum use of the latest service management software from Mentor Business Systems. It is also using intruder alarm monitoring services from sister business Custodian Monitoring Services to help make it one of the fastest growing installation businesses in the country. AFS started using Mentor’s Cash for Windows service management software three years ago to help manage the effectiveness of a network of engineers responsible for more than a thousand customers. It now utilises the latest modules to manage the end-to-end processes that are key to any service-led business from initial enquiry to final accounts. “The Mentor software helps us for the entire life of a customer – starting from the first sales enquiry, the pre-sales estimates and letters,” explains managing director Simon Stokes. “Once they become a customer we can see when work has been carried out on site, what has been installed and which engineer carried out the work.”

DEMAND FOR DESIGN TOOL

Since the launch of its new design tool to help architects and contractors work with off-site construction, award-winning healthcare building specialist and Portakabin subsidiary, Yorkon, has received more than 1,200 requests for the guide. Demand is particularly strong from architects and contractors in the health sector, as well as NHS trusts and independent healthcare providers. The company says that this unprecedented interest is further evidence of the growing demand for off-site construction. Yorkon has added three new workshops to its event programme-taking place at the RIBA in London on October 2nd.
